Winter Storm 1/31-2/2

After a week of forecasting, it finally appears that this storm will definitely impact the region. Once this storm moves out, much of the region will be covered in a significant amount of snowfall. Read the full blog post below!

When will this storm be arriving?

Much of the region will begin seeing snow early in the morning. Areas to the east will see snow start late-morning, possibly even in the early afternoon hours.

Simulated Radar

This is a simulated radar, from one of the high-resolution models, from 4pm Saturday through 7pm Monday. This does not include the entire storm. Snow will continue to fall until Tuesday morning for many locations. Some locations could see 48 hours of accumulating snow!

Model Simulated Snowfall Forecasts

European Model (ECMWF)

American Model (GFS)

Canadian Model (CMC)

Despite the slight differences between the 3 major models, all show a significant amount of snow state-wide.

Travel Conditions

If you have travel plans Sunday & Monday, I would highly suggest to cancel them, unless it is an emergency. Accumulating snow is expected throughout the day on Sunday and Monday for many areas, which will result in snow-covered and hazardous roadways. Schools will most likely be closed Monday (and possibly Tuesday) state-wide. Please check with your individual district for the latest updates on school closures.

Snowfall Forecast

Here is my latest forecast. I am expecting much of the region to pick up 8 to 12 inches of snowfall by Tuesday afternoon. Higher amounts are expected in eastern Pennsylvania, where up to 18 inches of snow could fall. ** PLEASE NOTE ** Changes are still expected. This storm has been changing day-to-day and snowfall amounts could increase or decrease. Due to my busy schedule this weekend, I will not be able to put out another blog post on Saturday (today). However, I will time to post an updated snowfall forecast to my Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter pages later this evening. Stay tuned!
